NHS Application 2018: Here is the link to the 2018 National Honor Society Application.
History of the National Honor Society
When the National Honor Society was established in 1921, the hope was to create an organization that would recognize and foster academic achievement while developing other characteristics essential to good citizenship and democracy. Scholarship, leadership, character, and service are ideals that remain as relevant today as they were in 1921. Now, more than 90 years later, the National Honor Society has established a reputation among administrators, faculty members, students, parents, and residents of the school community. This reputation is the result of years of commitment on the part of everyone involved. Membership is thus an honor and an obligation. Through their activities, the members of Greendale High School’s chapter of the National Honor Society have maintained and extended the qualities that garnered their selection.
Requirements for Membership at GHS
Students with at least a 3.5 cumulative grade point average after three semesters at Greendale High School are invited to learn more about membership in NHS. Those who are interested must submit an application and new members will be selected by a Faculty Council based on their leadership, character, and service. Along with maintaining high academic standards, NHS is a service organization. Each year, members must earn 50 hours of service through their school, church or community.

General Member Meeting Dates 2017 - 2018 School Year
Our first general member meeting will be held on Wednesday, September 27th, 2017 at 2:45pm in the GHS Library. Please contact Ms. Brody or Ms. Hauser if you cannot attend.
Service Guidelines
Members of NHS at Greendale High School are required to complete 50 total hours of service, 15 of which are sponsored through NHS. Current service guidelines can be found here. This link also includes hour due dates for both juniors and seniors. If there are further questions about service opportunities, please contact Ellyn Hottinger, Rachel Young, or Angeline Terry.
Volunteering Opportunities
Students chosen as members of the Greendale chapter of NHS are required to complete 50 hours of service, 15 of which are sponsored through NHS to maintain their membership in the club. However, they are not limited to this amount of hours. All NHS sponsored volunteering opportunities can be found on the shared Google Doc. Students can also receive reminders about new and current volunteering opportunities by signing up for text reminders (see advisor about this).
NOTE: Should you have a question about any of the volunteering opportunities posted on the shared Google Doc, please contact Ellyn Hottinger, Rachel Young, or Angeline Terry.
Hours Sheets
Every time a student participates in a volunteering opportunity, they are required to fill out an NHS Hours Sheet (found here). Once these sheets are completed, they should be handed in. This way, all hours can be recorded and verified. These hours sheets are kept until the end of each school year.
